Today was a gorgeous day in Grand Rapids and Becky + Matt couldn't have asked for more sunshine or better temperatures. I believe it was right around 70 degrees and sunny the entire morning + afternoon--a perfect day in May.
My day started at 9am by setting up the reception site. Sadly, I did not get to see the couple get married because I was a tad busy, but they had a very detailed mistress of ceremonies who took care of all the details at the church. I know Amy captured it well, so I will have to relive it at a later date! The ceremony was at 11am at Calvin College Chapel and the reception was immediately following at Mangiamo right on Lake Drive in Grand Rapids.
Guests arrived at the reception at 12:15 and were greeted with lemonade while they mingled on the lawn. They signed the guest book with a typewriter from 1959 that belongs to the bride's grandfather. Black + white damask table runners were made by the bride's grandmother and they were smashing! The all-white flower arrangements graced each table included hydrangeas, orchids, roses, and freesia and filled the room with the scent of Spring. After the champagne toast, dinner was served--both lasagna and chicken alfredo--and they were both out-of-this-world.
The cake--ooh, the cake! Barb from Sweet Cakes Design took cues from an April Reed design and created a 5-tier masterpiece, with the top layer being 8" tall (instead of 6"). It was beyond amazing, and tasted just as good as it looked.
After lunch, guests made their way to the lawn to mingle while the bridal party had photos taken. The shin-dig was done by 4pm, and the newlyweds left via convertible to check into their hotel room. They leave on their Jamaican honeymoon early next week!
Congrats to Becky + Matt! I will post some pro photos once they are available via Amy Carroll.

Sometimes local interpretations of famous cakes turn out kind of wonky, but this one is gorgeous! Great picture of it as well!
