spotlight :: ksenija savic photography

Anne, a faithful blog reader, pointed me in the direction of Ksenija Savic a few months ago. Since then, I've added Ksenija's blog to my link love page, and have been popping by her blog to see some amazing shots every now + again. I am mesmerized by her work, and wondered why I hadn't see her photos before. I, of course, wanted to highlight her work, and I was lucky enough to do a little Q+A with her. There are many more photos of Karen + Giancarlo's wedding on Ksenija's blog, and they are much larger there too!

Pearls Events :: Where are you located and do you travel?
ksenija savic :: i am located in the Birmingham area & yes! i absolutely do travel (& love to!) worldwide.

Pearls Events ::How did you get started in the business?
ksenija savic :: ever since i can remember i have been an artist in love with life, love & people. ironically enough, my father bought a Canon AE-1 camera (an amazing manual 35mm film camera for those who may not know) on the day i was born! as soon as he let me have it, i began taking photographs of EVERYTHING. everywhere i go, i see so many moments or interesting patterns & want to document them to not only to remember them, but to also preserve the art of what i saw. there is SO much beauty in everything around us & the interaction of humankind is something i find so incredible, interesting & wonder-FULL. i went to college & graduated with a major in photography, all the while freelancing as a photographer, doing internships, as well as exploring how make-up interacts with photography. i just kept following my heart, gut & ultimately couldn't deny the driving force of my passion for photography. one day i just realized that i had to take the 'jump' & see if i could do this fully on my own. so i did. i leaped. :D & i haven't looked back since!

Pearls Events ::What is your favorite part of the wedding day?
ksenija savic :: ALL OF IT! the best part of the wedding day is that no two are alike. it is the most unique love story of the couple, surrounded by all their closest friends & family --- how amazing is that?! to me, the best part of the wedding day is the countless & constant happy, wonderful moments that happen throughout it. i always say to my couples, "you both know what it feels like to be in love with each other,... now i get the honor of showing you what that love looks like." :) with that said, how could i ever just pick one thing when it is always going on around us?! i absolutely love, love, love what i do & feel incredibly blessed.

Pearls Events ::What photographers do you admire/aspire to be like?
ksenija savic :: i adore the work of jesh de rox, think the lively spirit of the Image is Found is amazing & have always admired the brilliant work of Annie Leibovitz.

Pearls Events ::If you're not shooting a wedding on a Saturday in June, what are you doing?
ksenija savic :: hmmm! gosh --- if i am not shooting a wedding on a Saturday in June i am either shooting something else, editing, blogging, meeting up with clients or answering the never ending mound of emails in my inbox! ;) there is always something to do, especially during these months. i am, however, trying to work on taking breaks, if not whole days at least chunks of time more this year.... so you may also find me enjoying breakfast with a good friend, taking a jog (there is nothing better than breathing in fresh summer air!), cuddling with my cats, cooking up something fun in the kitchen, reading a chapter or two of whatever book i am into at the time....

Pearls Events ::What is your favorite movie?
ksenija savic :: now that is a hard question! :D i absolutely love to watch movies. some top favorites of mine are Garden State, Life is Beautiful, What Dreams May Come, the Notebook, Lord of the Rings, Shawshank Redemption, Under the Tuscan Sun, Super Bad and of recent, The Bucket List... just to name a few! ;)
