changes in store for '09

I already announced this on Twitter + my personal blog, however, I realize not everyone follows along there. As of February 2nd, 2009, I will be focusing my entire work week on Pearls Events.

What does this mean?
It means that I am too busy to continue working part time for my family's business, while still maintaining the high level of service my clients have come to expect. It also means my day will be more flexible for appointments. I plan to spend more time with my husband in the evenings, as one of my resolutions for 2009 is to "Stop working by 8pm." Yes, I realize this isn't going to work each night, but it's something I want to work on!

Along with my excitement comes an updated look to our branding, a face lift to both the website + blog, our first local advertisement(!), and of course, continued excellent service to our current + potential clients. There are other small plans in place for a refreshed business + a renewed Aletha, which I plan to announce as they roll out.

What are you doing in '09? Is this the year you make your leap of faith?

Congrats, Aletha! It's always wonderful to see somebody's dreams take off like this! You clearly work very hard and love what you do! If my wedding were local, I'd definitely seek out your services!

So excited for you Aletha! You have come so far! What inspiration - you have shown that it is possible to follow one's dream, to carve one's own path.
To answer the question at hand, 2009 is the year that I finish my law contract. I then want to find something that I am really passionate about and that does more than pay the bills. I would love to start my own business (a cake business I think) but I still think that's far in the future. London is too competitive. It would be good if, alongside working corporate hours, I could retake the GMAT and score respectably.
Congrats again - wonderful wonderful news and you so deserve it. You made your dream a reality!

Congratulations, Aletha! I am so happy for you and your new start of the year! You deserve it! To answer your question to what I'm doing in '09. As of May, I will be going back to school (online) for Hospitality and event/wedding planning. It will be a super busy summer, but you know how much I enjoy the busyness :-)

I'm very glad that you are doing well, and hope to see you soon.

Congratulations Aletha! You're so very inspiring. My plans in 2009 include rolling out a 2nd business, that feeds my passion for fabric + design. I'm very excited about the prospects.
Here's to our success!

YEA!!!! I am SO happy for you!! I am starting 2009 with renewed passion for my work too! This is going to be the year that I am going to be really trying to make a difference in other people's lives. I have always remained focused on being the MOST cost effective, yet custom and upscale, wedding invitation designer in the area. But this year I plan to work with the tighter 2009 budgets with even more creative ideas to keep costs down. I have had so many new couples with unemployment issues already this year! A wedding (and new marriage) is tough enough without adding in finance issues! I pledge to remain priced below the industry standard but to maintain a quality product!!

Congrats Aletha! I'm excited for you! I like your idea of stopping work at 8 p.m. I am very guilty of "burning the midnight oil" on a fairly regular basis.

Congratulations!!! How exciting for you. And yay to keep up with New Year's Resolutions.
