Out of My Element | Photography Lessons
Saturday I did something out of the ordinary. I attended a photography workshop that made me nervous and a bit uncomfortable. Lisa Kae Photography, hosted a workshop which I signed up before I even owned a camera. Yes, I was that excited.
You may be thinking, "Why would a wedding planner want to take wedding photos?" Basically, I want details shots, especially for our full service clients. Yes, I usually get these from professional photographers, however escort card tables sometimes get picked over before the wedding party (with their photographer!) arrive at the reception. And how about that empty room shot? I like that one too.
I headed to Norman Camera, asked about the options and ended up with a beginner digital SLR. It is perfect for my detail shots (although I should invest in a macro lens), and I also look forward to taking many photos of Olive, our house, my new office - which is still in the works, but almost ready - and our kids (which do not exist yet). The photo above is my favorite from the day. Why yes, that is Kristen of K. Holly Studio that I spotlighted last week! Isn't she a gorgeous bride?!
If you are the least bit interested in photography, I suggest finding a photographer and take their class. Hands-on learning is the best way for me to learn and now I just need to practice what she showed me so I can capture the photos I want.
What have you done completely out of the ordinary lately?

Hi Aletha,
I just tried to leave a comment but I think it got deleted... just wanted to say that I think it's wonderful that you're taking photography lessons and are developing this skill - your love of photography shines through your blog.
The thing I'm trying to do that is out of my comfort zone is a long distance pastry diploma at my local university. I am in the process of applying - fingers crossed! It'll be tough but I think it'll be so worthwhile if I'm accepted.
Please keep us updated on your progress with your new talent! :)
awww...you go girl! Hope you remember everything you learned. Keep taking photos! Holla!!
This is so awesome! I am excited to follow you through your learning process! I would love to learn to take great photos as well, but I think my hubby would go crazy if I attempted a new talent :)
My husband makes fun of me everytime I tell him I want to take a photography class and get a Digital SLR---he thinks I want to be a photographer! Like you, I would love to get those detail shots:-) Your picture looks great---looks like it was a good class, thanks for sharing!
Great idea Aletha!! I have actaully been thinking about attending a photography workshop myself. Last year one of my photography friends let me assist her at a wedding,so I acted as her assistant for the day. I was so nervous about it, but I ended up having a blast and I learned so much about photography and cameras.
The best of us are well rounded! Another thing to mark off the bucket list.
Good for you for taking lessons! That's awesome. I've always been interested in photography but just as a personal hobby. Maybe when I get settled in my new town I'll look into lessons!
The only thing out of the ordinary in my life these days is packing up and moving 3 hours away: it's presently taking over my life!
Hmm... out of the ordinary? Modeling for eleven photographers! Eek! :) It was great to see you there, and the image looks lovely, wow that light coming in was gorgeous!
Aletha, I adore this image. I know you have a photographer inside you...from the moment I met your blog I knew that you had a great eye. Good for you for taking that leap into a wonderful new hobby!
