Spotlight | Forrester Farm, Part One

A few weeks ago, Ann of Forrester Farm, contacted me to chat about wedding flowers. We got together last week for a cup of tea and I must admit, it was one of the most dynamic vendor meetings I've ever had - I left feeling quite inspired! After seeing her work, and getting to know her a bit, I highly recommend her as a florist and look forward to working with her soon. Above are a few photos from Hannah & Wilson's September 27, 2008 wedding.

A special thank you to a Pearls Events favorite, Mindy Peterson, of This Photo Story.

Ann was kind enough to do a little Q & A with me. I hope you enjoy her answers as much as I enjoyed getting to know her. And stay tuned later this afternoon for another wedding by the Forrester Farm team.

How long have you been in the flower industry and what got you interested?
I've been interested in flowers for as long as I can remember - I give most credit to my Grandma, who from the time I could walk, would take me through her yard and point to and name all of the beautiful blooms that she grew. Forrester Farm began in 2000. My dream for as long as I can remember was to have a store that not only featured great products for your home, but also flowers from my personal garden. As my business and family has grown, the desire for a physical store has changed, and I’m blessed to love what I do while working from home base. We have almost 3 acres – which is such a great playground for the gardener in me.

What inspires your floral designs?
I really get inspired by many things – nature, photos, beauty. When I'm working with a bride, the most important thing is for me to know what she really wants - what is the perfect picture for her wedding? When I'm creating bouquets for the farmer's market or personal use, I let creativity kick in and put flowers together based on what I’m working with - blooms, containers, color theme, etc.

What magazines do you subscribe to?
Better Homes & Gardens Weddings, Brides Michigan, Floral Review, Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion, MaryJanesFarm, Better Homes & Gardens Country Gardens - I always get inspired by gardening magazines!

What is your favorite thing to do on your days off?
Laughing and enjoying my sweet husband and children! Favorite things also include: enjoying the Lake Michigan beaches, camping in our fun vintage camper, hanging out with friends, traveling, savoring wine, cheese and chocolate, working with our miniature horses and taking trips to local antique flea markets!

Are there some upcoming Forrester Farm events?
On Saturday, March 14 from 9am to 3pm, Forrester Farm will be exhibiting many hand crafted products at the Sunshine Church Art and Craft Fair in Grand Rapids, MI. Also beginning this year, we are having monthly Garden Room Events at the farm, May - October. Details are listed on the Schedule section of our website.
