Isn't it Thematic

Want a quick and simple method for tying everything in your wedding together? Think themes! Now, don't be scared, I'm not talking about carnivals and circuses, but simple, easy themes that can make everything from your invitations and favors, to your table decor and escort cards look like every detail was cut from the same cloth.

Themes can be as easy as choosing a color but can also be used to illustrate something about you and your fiancé. My husband and I love to travel and when we were married we used travel as the theme, incorporating it into everything we did from the invitations (designed to look like real passports), to escort cards (luggage tags), to the menus (plane tickets) and even down to the table names (all places we had traveled together).

A theme doesn’t always have to be complex but it is a little tool that you can use to make choices and design elements simple. Looking for a theme for your big day? Here are some great ideas.

1. Choose a color A color palette is a simple way that every detail can be incorporated. A color such as red can be used in flowers, dresses, stationery and décor.

2. Pick a pattern Use your favorite graphic pattern to pull everything together. Everything from your invitations, napkins and favors, to even a cake topper, escort cards or a photo strip from the photo booth at your wedding can have the same fun design.

3. Manage a monogram Many couples have a monogram designed for their invites, why not carry that through your entire celebration? It can be used on centerpieces, favors, the cake, napkins, every detail you can think of will have your name, or your monogram, on it.

4. Have a hobby You and your fiancé are crazy about coffee and have had many dates at coffee shops, why not incorporate it into your big day1 From a custom coffee bar, to escort cards displayed using coffee beans, to incorporating it into your centerpieces and coffee mugs for all – it will all reflect you.

Jammie has impeccable taste. She has been a blast to work with while planning her Grand Rapids wedding and this Saturday came together seamlessly. If you've been reading along for a while, you may remember the sneak peek of Jammie's amazing gown, the post where I passed out when talking about mixing neutrals, and of course, the Fall engagement photos.

Tara, Amy & I
headed to my favorite cafe to pick up lunch for the bridal party before heading to the bridal suite at the JW Marriott. After we helped the ladies get dressed before photos, we headed to Fountain Street Church to put the last details in place before guests began arriving.

After Jammie & Aaron were pronounced husband & wife, they signed their Ketubah and made their way onto the trolley with their wedding party. Tara was on board to pour & serve champagne and help with photos around the city.

Amy & I walked into the International Ballroom and were in awe - it had been transformed by one of my favorite Grand Rapids florists. We used ivory pintuck linens, gold chivari chairs & gold chargers and was stunning. The wow factor? The flowers. All-white orchids, peonies, hydrangeas, roses, carnations, daisies - we went a little crazy!

In the words of Amy Carroll, is was fabulous. I cannot wait to see photos in the coming weeks and Kate will be posting the preview as soon as it's ready.

Congratulations to Jammie & Aaron - enjoy Antigua!

Weekend Eye Candy

I love a wedding on the shores of Lake Michigan, so when I caught a glimpse of Tracy & Jordan's photos on Nicole Ladonne's blog, I couldn't wait to share them with you. The couple was married at one of my favorite spots in Michigan - Glen Arbor, a sleepy little town nestled in the Leelanau Peninsula.

Nicole sent over some details...The whole wedding was a family affair - everyone woke up early in the morning to set up the reception site. The coordinators for the day were Tracy's Aunt Beth and Aunt Ame, the florist was her Aunt Lori, the band was Jordan's uncle, Jordan's father officiated the ceremony. The beautiful ceremony was held in Tracy's grandfather's backyard, and the bridal party consisted of all of Jordan and Tracy's siblings! It was a spectacular weekend, and while we had a few sprinkles during the rehearsal dinner, it was clear and sunny on their wedding day!

Real Wedding 2009 | Tara & Mike

Tara & Mike are an awesome couple, currently on their Italian honeymoon (Why yes, I AM a tad jealous!). Tara spent over 18 months planning her big day and I think she has the Pearls Events record for booking our services, as we've had her wedding on the books for Event Management for over sixteen months! I love a girl who knows what she wants.

Since the couple lives in South Carolina, I didn't get to meet them face to face until their wedding weekend. It was a pleasure working with their families, especially Tara's mom, Jan, who is so genuine and kind.

As always, Jen of JK Photography rocked this wedding, capturing all of Tara's little details, plus getting a great overview of a picture perfect day. Congrats again, Tara & Mike!

Video Save The Date | Take 1 Productions

Don & Joanne (above, top) of Take 1 Productions produce amazing wedding films - definitely one of the best film studios in Michigan. They recently sent over this fabulous video, which was used to save-the-date for the gorgeous couple. The video is about four minutes long, however has a great Chicago tune playing and it's fun to watch. My favorite part is when the couple is at the carnival - complete Americana.

Don & Joanne are in a class all their own when it comes to wedding cinematography. Check out their new blog, which showcases much more of their phenomenal work. Thanks Joanne, for sending this over!

Real Wedding 2009 | Jan & Dan

It's hard for me to pick a favorite event when friends & family ask, simply because I like elements from each wedding we work on - no matter how involved we get. From our planning and management clients, to our set-up clients, each bride-to-be has great taste and we love to show it off on the blog! However, Jan & Dan's wedding I'm going to gush about a little. The flowers! The dress! The location! It was all gorgeous.

When I met with Jan & Dan last June, they wanted a beach wedding on the shores of Lake Michigan. Unfortunately the only way to get a tent & rentals, plus the food down to their beach was to rent a barge and ship it all in via waterway. No joke. Since the cost was way over budget, we did the next best thing and created the reception space under a canopy of trees on their property. It was beautiful, easily accessible and it turned out perfectly!

I cannot stress enough that working with the budget you have set (instead of splurging on a barge, in this case!) makes everyone happy in the long run. Instead of renting the barge to be right on the beach, they hired one of the best deejays from Chicago, had an amazing vegan dinner and kept the drinks coming all night long. It was a marvelous party that their guests will remember for years to come!
